Portugal, the best sport destination for holiday, in my opinion for everything. Do you surf? Do you want to start? Read more. If not, continue anyway, I will describe the country in other respects.
I sit on the plane and head west direction, I have only a couple of hours left. Blue ocean, beautiful waves, beautiful nature, wind, fantastic food and the idea that one day I will live there. All of this has been waiting for an hour twenty, I have almost half of the flight slowly behind.
In this blog, I want to show the country, that is far enough to known by tourists and it's certainly not standard holiday destination for ordinary working Slovaks. Error! If you have decided to embrace the holiday this year a little bit differently, to see something other than crowded beaches, warm smooth lotion in Croatia and do not want to experience the traditional routine (morning on the beach, there are six hours of barbecue, then playful fun at the disco and the same ten days straight) so read on.
Here we are talking about the country which offers incredible possibilities for all kinds of sports and thousands of experiences that stays with you forever.
It all starts about 3-hour flight from Vienna or about two hours of driving to airport Ferenc List (former Ferihegy) in Budapest. It is true that the flight from Budapest is mostly 50 € cheaper but the comfort that you are at the airport in 40 minutes and costs involved, I choose Vienna. But of course this is all about choices. Direct flight costs around 250 €, unless you are buying a ticket a month in advance. I recommend TAP Portugal, it is in my opinion the best option.
Flights are every day whether from Budapest or Vienna. The price includes a standard 20 kg of luggage, unless you want to take some sports equipment eg. golf clubs you pay 30 € one way. Surf, bike and other cost similar, of course, you want to consider the possibility of renting the toys there. The possibilities are inexhaustible and many services and rates are at an excellent prices. Parking at the airport, whether is Budapest or Vienna, you need to think about it. Ten days in Vienna is about 140 €, and about half at Pest. The airport shuttle operates from Bratislava to Schwechat very often so unless you have oversized toys with you, go by bus.
We are boardering about an hour and the best is waiting for me. It will be about 5 hours and I'm taking a car at the rental desk at the airport, ordered by Vanda, my better half. Always orders via Portugalautorentals.pt, it is the cheapest and you pick up the car at the airport. Here I must say that the car really depends whether it is high or low session. I had the car for 10 days for 80 € but also for 250 €.
Well, it is half past five, I got my car and go. My goal is Guincho! Beach, which is located about 40 minutes drive from the airport. It is a "mecca" for all water sports and a place that is considered the best wave spot for windsurfing or kitesurfing in Europe. Wind season is from May to August but in August, it's not a perfect wind . Water temperature around 20 degrees in summer and 15 in winter is certainly appropriate to use the 4 mm neoprene but I've ridden in hot weather without it. There is certainly fair to say that Portugal has a very pleasant climate all year around. What is important to me (I hate high temperature above 30) and during the summer there is a pleasant 25, in the winter the temperature is around 15 degrees, so it is an ideal place for golf, surfing, bicycles and many others but we will get there. I must say that unless you are a good kiteor windsurfer you'll love Guincho But be careful when you want to learn, forget about Guincho. Portugal offers you a further few other destinations, which are essentially hour away from Guincho by car. This may be the two lagoons in the south or several areas with smaller waves. All sites are within 1 hour drive. Who wants to visit Guincho has many options for accommodation. Can live in luxury camp about 500 meters above Guinchom price around 20 € per small house.
The camp has its own swimming pool, located between pine trees and is located on the sand dunes. It's a really cool place where I spent "couple" of the nights. Furthermore, there are countless possibilities for accommodation, I recommend Airbnb or conventional hotels on BOOKING.com. Guincho is about 5 km from the beautiful town of Cascais, which is about 30 km from the absolute center of Lisbon. Cascais is an ideal base for trips, whether they are surf rides or sightseeing and believe that this time your girlfriend will be thrilled that she went as well. The train which takes you to Lisbon city center runs every 40 minutes.
Okay, so today pokajtujem the Guinchi, will blow about 10 m wind, waves will be 2 m high nearly ideal for Starting Off. In my head was already reflected in tomorrow and the forecast says it will not blow. Not the same, because Guincho the next hill and asked if the sun so there thermals works like eyes! From ordinary summer 5bft amplifies the 7 and 8 sometimes it is a decent massacre. I plan the next days, I supremely impatient. My prediction speaks of calm windless tomorrow and that I prefer at this point. I spent the last 15 years a lot of time sitting around in places and waiting for the wind. Portugal gives me more. Incredible sports all weather conditions and for every level of riding levels. Decided, tomorrow I take paddle board and go to Sao Pedro Cascais small beach below half way to Lisbon, where they form a beautiful ripples.
